Justin P. Drew: A Letter I Wrote To Kyle Kinane
Here’s a submission from another Boston comic, Justin P. Drew. I’ve seen him perform before and if you check out his schedule, he seems to do pretty well for himself comedically. He wrote this letter to comedian Kyle Kinane that poses a great question. Read on:
Hey Kyle, I just recently listened to your album and I gotta say, it blew me away. Fantastic and unabashed, really impressed...

Question #1:
ultrawhyte:
Sup man, I’m really interested in trying my hand at stand up. I got a few questions though for one how long is your typical set for an open mic. Also do you have any tips for a first timer at going on stage, and writing bits. Thanks nice blog btw.
I’ll answer this one as best I can. If other comedians want to lend some advice, feel free to send an email or hit...

The Comedy Studio in Harvard Square
So last night my friend and comedian Brian Jones and I visited The Comedy Studio in Harvard Square. I hadn’t been there before, but any comic in the Boston area (past or present) has gone up or wanted to go up at the Studio.
It wasn’t an open mic, but there was still a razzamatazz of young and old comics of varying skill levels. As a comic, it’s nice for a show not to be labeled...
ASK + SUBMIT
For some reason, I didn’t allow people to ‘submit’ until just now. If you have some stuff to contribute, feel free to click Submit up top and cut out the middle man.
Also, if you want to ask questions to be answered by me and the rest of the comedy universe, hit Ask up there too.
P.S. There’ll be more user content stuff tomorrow. Just taking it one at a time for now.

Day 2 of people being interested in this thing
People are interested, a little bit.
Here’s our first contribution by a fellow open-miker named Jason Islas who works out of LA. He writes a blog, aptly titled Thought Experiments Gone Wrong.
To get right to it; he wrote this piece called “Writing a Joke” that enacts the experience of the joke-writing process to comics of all experience levels.

Contributions!
I’ve got some people interested in contributions to the blog (big thanks to Connected Comedy for their tweet), and things are looking good.
SO if you want to be featured, send me stuff!
Stories
A time you bombed, had a great set, dealt with hecklers, club owners, other comics, etc. Anything that makes for a good read, write it and send it to me.

Philosophy of Stand up 101: Dread
To begin, I didn’t go up the other day.
I’d like to try and keep a distance between my personal problems and stand up itself, so I’ll just say this: I have a problem in which I tend to convince myself that not going on stage is always a better idea than getting up.
This post is about that mentality in stand up. As an avid comedy geek, I hear the typical symptoms described by...
I haven't done stand up in 2 months
I can’t believe how long its been, but I tend to do this. Since August 2009, I’ve had a handful of comedy hiatuses. I don’t like doing it, but it’s because I’m scared of it.
I never plan to do it, but I go longer and longer and come up with more and more excuses. It’ll start with me feeling bad about my current material, then coming up with new material and...
I'm starting this blog for a few reasons
To share my experiences, philosophies, and whatever else in regards to stand up comedy. The world of stand up is crazy and unpredictable, so I expect there to be plenty to write.
To track my progress, if any. My goal is to make comedy a living, and it all starts here. I want to post videos, audio clips, photos, joke ideas, any content I can scrounge together to exemplify what I’ve been up...
This is me
My name is Dan Wright and I’m an open-miker in the Boston area.
That means that I perform stand up comedy, but because I haven’t ever been paid to do a show, I hesitate to call myself a “stand up comedian.” My reason for that is primarily for fear of a real, seasoned professional comedian who will shit on my soul.
I’m afraid of those guys for some reason.
So, I...
